Inspired by the passion and skill of her own pediatrician, Dr. Shepard knew she wanted to become a pediatrician at a very young age. “I knew I wanted to practice medicine how he did,” Dr. Shepard recalls.
Dr. Shepard earned her Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and is an American Chemical Society (ACS) certified chemist. She obtained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
A Houston native, Dr. Shepard is board certified and sees patients from newborn to age 18. She treats a wide array of conditions from well checkups to sick visits, as well as treating special needs children. She also provides education on nutrition and preventive medicine.
As a pediatrician, Dr. Shepard works to coordinate her patients’ care with other health care providers, when appropriate. She also works to ensure the parents understand the treatment plan each step of the way. “I consider myself home base for the parents,” she says. “I like to ensure everyone is on the same page.”
Dr. Shepard believes in clear communication and strives to provide thorough, detailed explanations of each diagnosis for both the child and their parent. She also believes in addressing both the child and their parent and getting everyone involved as a team.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Shepard enjoys cooking, gardening, painting, practicing yoga, and spending time with her husband and family.
